It is going to be messy the next few days

In college, when I was an RA, I was turned onto NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) by the then Assistant Director of the Office of Resident Life. I really liked her, her name was Jennifer, and while she scared students who were not nice to her RA's, she was really pleasant to the staff. During hurricane season she spent a lot of time tracking hurricanes via the National Hurricane Center at the NOAA and since I spent ample time in the office and I watched the news a lot I quickly realized she too was keeping track of the news, particularly the weather. It gave us something to talk about and she showed me the NOAA website as well as the satellites and maps that they have and I thought it was one of the coolest things in world. When I was younger I wanted to be a storm chaser and I have always been fascinated with the weather. Something about the weather and nature really entraps me; one minute it can be warm and sunny, a nice breeze going, a start to a great day, and just as soon as you blink the wind can pick up, the storm clouds can roll in and Mother Nature can crap on your day. The same weather that brings much needed rain for drought relief will also flood an area, the same wind that flies a kite will topple trees and tear down homes, the same waves that give great surf adventures can raise up and destroy the community near the water. The weather is more like a bi-polar, schizophrenic dog, it will be your best friend, allowing you to pet it and sitting nicely in your lap one minute and the next it will rip your hand off and back you into a corner before you realize what has happened, and then later it will be your best friend again.

My love and fascination of weather usually has me checking the NOAA website a lot during the winter and tonight when I checked I saw the report that the next few days in my area could be quite a wintry mess.

...WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM EST TUESDAY
THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING...

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM EST TUESDAY
THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING.

A MIXED PRECIPITATION WINTRY WEATHER EVENT IS LIKELY STARTING
TUESDAY.

A COLD FRONT IS MOVING THROUGH THE REGION OVERNIGHT WITH ARCTIC AIR
BEHIND IT AND WAVES OF LOW PRESSURE ARE FORECAST TO MOVE ALONG THE
FRONTAL BOUNDARY. A COUPLE OF PRECIPITATION SURGES ARE FORECAST TO
AFFECT THE REGION.

PRECIPITATION SHOULD BE RAIN EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. BY TUESDAY
AFTERNOON IT WILL BE COLD ENOUGH ALOFT FOR PRECIPITATION TO CHANGE
TO SLEET AND OR SNOW. AS MORE COLDER AIR MOVES IN... ITS POSSIBLE
THAT PRECIPITATION MIGHT CHANGE TO ALL SNOW TUESDAY EVENING. THE
PROCESS IS THEN EXPECTED TO REVERSE ITSELF LATER TUESDAY NIGHT AND
WEDNESDAY MORNING AS WARMER AIR MOVES IN ALOFT. THIS WILL INCREASE
THE LIKELIHOOD OF FREEZING RAIN OCCURRING. THE PRECIPITATION
SHOULD CHANGE TO PLAIN RAIN RAIN AS WEDNESDAY CONTINUES.

PRIOR TO THE CHANGE...THERE COULD BE A COUPLE OF INCHES OF SNOW
AND SLEET AS WELL AS AROUND ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH. THIS EVENT
WOULD IMPACT THE EVENING COMMUTE ON TUESDAY AND ALSO HAVE AN
IMPACT ON THE WEDNESDAY MORNING COMMUTE.

PLEASE USE THE TIME PRIOR TO THE EVENT TO MAKE THE NECESSARY
PREPARATIONS. A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR
SIGNIFICANT SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT
TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

It has been raining a lot the past few days and looks like that rain will turn into snow, sleet, and ice tomorrow. I just hope that run off does not cause flooding. I'll post some maps, radar and satellite tomorrow.

Anthony
