4th Grader with blade runs wild in school

Well it is not quite a kid with a blade running wild, it happened more like this. A 4th grader from Hilton Head Island International Baccalaureate Elementary School, tried to sharpen his pencil when his small sharpener broke, he continued to use it anyway and got in trouble under the schools zero tolerance policy for having a weapon. Apparently his teacher
noticed the boy had what appeared to be a small razor blade during class on Tuesday.
I would also like everyone to note that
It was obvious that the blade was the metal insert commonly found in a child's small, plastic pencil sharpener, the deputy noted.

So what happened next my dear readers? The boy was suspended, a police report was filed with the County Sheriff and the boy and his parents had to go to meetings with the Superintendent and administrators. In a meeting with the vice principal, the mother, and the sheriff the boy, who is said to be a good student and a good kid, cried (remember kids, in order for them to take your individuality they will do whatever they can to lower your spirits, when you cry they know you are theirs).

The Sheriff's report noted
He had no criminal intent in having the blade at school, the sheriff's report stated, but was suspended for at least two days and could face further disciplinary action.
Of course he had no criminal intent!!! He was sharpening a pencil for the love of God! At least it seems that this Sheriff has a square head on his shoulders. But in a perfect world the school administration would have been laughed at and got a swift kick in the ass from the parent population.

And here folks is one of my favorites from the District Spokesman Randy Wall
District spokesman Randy Wall said school administrators are stuck in the precarious position between the district's zero tolerance policy against having weapons at school and common sense.

"We're always going to do something to make sure the child understands the seriousness of having something that could potentially harm another student, but we're going to be reasonable," he said.

Zero tolerance weapons policy, hey I am glad that is working out for you folks. It just would not be the same if some kid was not victimized by the administration because he had a broken pencil sharpener. You are not stuck in any precarious position and you certainly are not using common sense. The fact is that this boy had a broken pencil sharpener, and because of that he will most certainly always have something on record saying he violated the schools weapon policy. There is no need to make this child understand anything about harming another child, he did nothing of the sort. If you want to be reasonable the teacher should have told him to throw the broken sharpener away and use another pencil or use the sharpener in the classroom. That is it, end of story.

I am surprised this kid did not have a bag thrown over his head, his hands zip tied behind his back, labeled an enemy combatant and shipped to Guantanamo Bay to be water boarded until he gave up where he got the "blade" from. My suspicion is that the long known supplier of weapons of mass destruction we know as Crayola is behind the blade. I would not be surprised if Congress does not launch an investigation into Crayola and freeze their assets until they stop producing pencil sharpeners and glue sticks arms and biological weapons of mass destruction.

If you want the police report with some of its lunacies you can go here and download the pdf.

This "incident" also prompted a letter to be sent home to parents. It says that the sharpener was "altered at home" and then the blade was "brought to school". What a load of heaping stinking bull pies.

Listen folks, if this ever happens to your kid sue the hell out of the school and the school district. This kid sat in a meeting crying because some asinine teacher and administrators acted like this kid brought an AK47 to school and attempted to shoot up the place. I can't wait to be a parent in this world because if that was kid the school would have regretted making such a stupid use of their "common sense". Parents need to stop baa'ing along like the good sheep they are and stand up for their children. I hope the parents of this kid took him home, sat him down, and discussed with him how absolutely ridiculous this whole mess is, and used the words "administration" and "heads up their asses" all in the same sentence.

Protect your kids folks...be sheepdogs, not sheep,
Anthony
