The Anthony Defense and Ammo Fund

Well I have decided to put a donate button onto my blog. The reason is this, my little city of gang bangers and criminals is becoming increasingly more dangerous, and as a recent college graduate in this city it is hard to find a job. Why is it hard to find a job you may ask? Well countless people have told me that I am over qualified for the many positions in my hometown. However, instead of belly aching over this I have decided to go back to school for nursing where I will be able to make more money in the long run and do something that I will enjoy.

At any rate, with money being tight I have not been able to buy the handgun that I had intended on buying to join the ranks of my fellow concealed carry owners, and to guard my home, myself, and my family in this city. Thus I have decided to unveil the (cue music and flashing lights) ANTHONY DEFENSE AND AMMO FUND.

If people do decide to contribute I will keep people up to date and will post pictures when I manage to buy the gun (and holster and ammo).

So let it be known that from this day forward the Defense and Ammo Fund is open and ready for donations.

"Gun-man" arrested near Obama Rally

John Noble, a 50 year old resident of Beaver County Pennsylvania, was disarmed and arrested after having a holstered pistol on his person in a park near an Obama Rally. Mr. Noble says he was sitting in the park with his wife, getting ready to hand out gun rights fliers to people going to the rally to see Obama, a self proclaimed gun rights opponent. Barack Obama, who said in a speech earlier this year that people "get bitter and cling to their guns and religion", has come under scrutiny from the gun owning community, even so more since he has picked gun grabber Joe Biden as his Vice Presidential candidate.

John Noble was still sitting in the park with his wife, eating and apple and holding a bible when four police officers and a police dog approached Mr. Noble, disarmed him and placed him under arrest. Mr. Noble says that
"It's my right to keep and bear arms. It's completely legal what I was doing, "I was about to hand out some gun-right fliers. I never had a chance."
He even offered some of the fliers to the police in order to show them what he was doing, however the police officers were not interested in the fliers, or the rights of John Noble.

And what crime did Mr. John Noble commit some may ask? According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review
State police Trooper Shawn Schexnaildre said in a news release that Noble breached a secured perimeter of a presidential candidate political rally with a fully loaded, holstered and exposed handgun.

Noble's actions created a clear public alarm and caused a significant breakdown in rally security because officers had to leave manned security posts to arrest and disarm Noble, the trooper said.

Misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges will be forthcoming against Noble, said Schexnaildre.

This is the most absurd thing I have heard in a long time. He "breached" a secure perimeter. If by breached they mean he sat in a park eating an apple with his wife and holding a bible then I suppose so. And I wonder how he "breached" the perimeter in the first place, I am assuming to breach a perimeter there actually has to be someone guarding that perimeter, which clearly was not the case, or that Police did a very poor job at doing so.

The State Trooper says that he "created a clear public alarm and caused a significant breakdown in rally security". Mr. Noble was openly carrying a holstered 9mm Glock handgun. This does not cause alarm to me, he was merely following the law, as in Pennsylvania he is allowed to open carry, not to mention the Constitution allows him to keep and bear arms. As far as him causing a breakdown in rally security, he did no such thing. The breakdown cam when the officers decided to infringe upon the rights of this man. He was doing nothing illegal. If investigating a possible crime is a breakdown in security, perhaps they should reconsider their job duties as police and rally security. Had they recognized this mans right to carry his firearm openly (and he also had a concealed carry permit as well) than security would have remained just as it always had.

Mr. Noble says that he has carried his pistol all over Beaver county for 23 years and has never had a problem with anything. He says he has carried it for protection but has never had to use, or even draw his gun.

The police shackled and held Mr. Noble for three hours as well as confiscated his gun. His gun, costing about $600.00, has not been returned.

John Noble was asked if he thought it was wise to carry a gun near an Obama rally and he said that
"His rights don't trump mine."

You are correct sir, just because he is a Presidential nominee and a gun grabbing socialist, does not mean that your rights should be infringed upon. Imagine folks, Obama is already having people's guns removed and he is not even President. Think about what will happen if he and Biden, the author of various gun bans, come into power. Obama and the media may claim him to be the next Messiah, but he does has no right to take to your guns, and neither does anyone else.

I wish Mr. Noble the best of luck and hope that he sues the pants off the State Troopers who illegally arrested and confiscated his property. If the police want to arrest a criminal they can start with the politicians who pass gun bans, as it is illegal to do so based on the Constitution.

After reading this story I will say what I said a few days ago, with the words of our Texan ancestors echoing in my ears, "Come and Take It

Palin Fever is spreading

Sarah Palin shooting what appears to be an AR on her last visit to the troops in Iraq

Shortly after Palin was announced as Vice President the internet has exploded with excited chatter and support for this woman. Palin fever is spreading, and also, it seems, she is swinging people over to vote for McCain and herself this upcoming election.

Here are what some people are saying from various blogs I read, and blogs that they read as well, that I checked out to see what people are saying. I have linked to all of the blogs that I took comments from. They are pretty good reads if anyone wants to become a follower. (I hope no one minds that I have quoted from their blogs and linked to them, if you do let me know and I will remove it immediately)

From PDB's blog
I am so impressed by the selection of Sarah Palin for the R vice presidency spot that for the first time in my life, I will slap a political sticker on my car! I have gone from mildly apathetic to borderline enthusiastic!

From No Looking Backwards
It's Sarah!Congratulations, President McCain.

You did the right thing.

I'd actually support McCain if he did that(referring to picking Palin) -Robb.

Now I can vote for McCain.
--Johnny

From View from the Porch
Palin? Color me impressed.

This is absolutely fantastic

When I heard it was Palin, I was a bit giddy too...

I'm impressed. McCain may have given me the ability to vote my conscience, and for him, at the same time.

I mean, I was hoping he'd pick Palin, but since my desires and government are usually something that never meet, I didn't figure he'd actually do it.

Awesome. Hooray!

Yesterday, there was a 100% chance I would not be voting GOP.

Today, I'm suddenly mulling the idea.

I think it's a good choice, she has good conservative creds, and may have some real appeal to the Clinton crowd. Not to mention she seems to have some guts.

From Snowflakes in Hell
I think McCain hit this one out of the park. She will be a powerful addition to his ticket

Good Lord this woman is looking better and better to me! To think a politician being advised as to what the Constitution allows and than voting with the Constitution. Maybe if all politicians voted like this women we would not be in some of the trouble we are in.

From The Armed School Teacher
God help me, I'm starting to feel the urge to vote for McCain.
Well, OK, it's an urge to vote for Sarah Palin

From The Breda Fallacy
Chosen as running mate by John McCain, she's a true maverick who fought her own party to end corruption and overspending, granted state benefits to same-sex couples, and is a member of Feminists for Life.I just signed up to volunteer with the GOP.

Seriously, waking up to this news this morning has made this my favorite day in a long time

This sure makes it easier to push the button for McCain.

From Neanderpundit
WHOOO HOOOOO!!! Life NRA member, hunter, fisher(wo)man, reformer, constructionis, second amendment absolutist, mother of FIVE, including a downs syndrome child, who she KNEW was downs syndrome and delivered ANYWAY, my good lord I love this woman.

She made me smile on all the big issues.
A politician hasn’t made me smile in a long time.

Thank God. Now I can vote for McCain with an easy conscience.

I think it’s safe to say that the base has been energized.

The GOP may have just got me off the couch

Well with all of that being said it is easy to see that Sarah Palin has got to be the smartest decision that McCain and the GOP has ever made. As people have pointed out, she has cured people's apathy, settled the decision of who to vote for, and have energized the GOP movement once again.

Welcome to the party Sarah. You have successfully swung voters and energized the party in only a few hours. Perhaps we will see you as President, as some are already hopeful about.

McCain picks Palin---Gov Sarah Palin on the Issues

Gov. Sarah Palin, Running Mate for Senator John McCain

Presidential nominee John McCain has picked Governor Sarah Palin to be his Vice Presidential running mate. While at this point I an neither a fan of Obama or McCain (but more so of the conservative values of McCain) I am excited about this political scene.

In a stunning and shocking move, John McCain simultaneously snuffed out the hype of Barack Obama being a black presidential candidate, and has silenced the common critics of the Republican party. John McCain did what Obama would not, have a women in the second highest office of the land.

Sarah Palin has a son in the military who will be deploying to Iraq in September, silencing those who say that if the politicians want a war to send their own children. Her son has decided to serve his country in this war. In addition to that Sarah Palin is a reformer. She authored and instituted many ethics reforms in her state and helped to end corruption in politics in Alaska. She gained a lot of support by publicly exposing ethics violations of fellow Republicans in Alaska. She ousted previous incumbents in a few seats and in 2007 she had a stunning approval rating in the 90th percentile. She also won her seat as governor despite that fact that she had little support from the Republican leadership and was outspent by the Democratic incumbent, she is truly a woman of the people.

Sarah Palin sounds great but where does she stand on the issues?

Sarah Palin believes in the free market, which is not only good for business owners but for American consumers. American's should have the right to buy from whom they choose and American business have the right to do business with which ever corporation they choose. Palin says that:
A free market system allows all parties to compete, which ensures the best and most competitive project emerges, and ensures a fair, democratic process
not to mention the cost effectiveness of this approach.

Sarah Palin is also a hunter and gun advocate. She is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and our Consitutional rights. She is a lifetime member of the NRA and she says this about guns and hunting
“I am a lifetime member of the NRA, I support our Constitutional right to bear arms and am a proponent of gun safety programs for Alaska's youth….I have always strongly supported the personal use of fish and game by Alaskans. I grew up hunting and fishing in Alaska, and I am proud to raise my children with this same uniquely Alaskan heritage. … Anti-hunting groups who oppose hunting and fishing rights will be the winners if we allow them to pit us against ourselves….As an Alaskan with strong beliefs on this issue, I am confident in my ability to build consensus among diverse user groups and reconcile the many competing interests in a manner.”

Sarah Palin also believes in utilizing the pipeline in Alaska and opening it up in order to help to end our dependence on foreign oil. Combine this with John McCain's want of alternative energies and we have a winning combination for energy independence in America.

In addition to these things Sarah Palin is an opponent of Big Oil companies and lobbyists and supports small business and stimulating business growth, saying this
As Mayor and CEO of the booming city of Wasilla, my team invited investment and encouraged business growth by eliminating small business inventory taxes, eliminated personal property taxes, reduced real property tax mill levies every year I was in office, reduced fees, and built the infrastructure our businesses needed to grow and prosper.”

Palin is a fiscal conservative, something we strongly need in this country right now. When she became Governor of Alaska she cut 237 million dollars from needless construction projects in the state.

On Health Care Sarah Palin states that
“I support flexibility in government regulations that allow competition in health care that is needed, and is proven to be good for the consumer, which will drive down health care costs and reduce the need for government subsidies. I also support patients in their rightful demands to have access to full medical billing information.”

Perhaps the two biggest issues that she is criticized for by both sides (surprisingly enough) are her stances on Abortion and Gay Marriage Rights.

Sarah Palin is pro-life, and not only believes in those values but lives those values. Her son, who is now four months old, was born with down syndrome. Sarah and her husband were made aware of this fact before he was born and had the option to abort the child but chose instead to keep him. Sarah Palin truly practices what she preaches. The choice of having a child or not comes long before the conception of the child, not the months leading up to the birth.

Sarah Palin is also personally against gay marriage in accord with her own personal belief system. However she has gay and lesbian friends and is very concerned with the issues of discrimination against the gay and lesbian community. One of her first vetoes while in office was to use her veto power to block legislation that would deny same sex couples benefits from the state. In essence her veto allowed access to to State of Alaska benefits to same sex couples. Despite her own personal views she complied with a State Supreme Court ruling on the issue and made sure this law went into effect with her veto, after checking with the State Attorney General on the constitutionality. This is truly a woman we want in office, a woman who despite her personal beliefs will do what the Constitution says and not what she believes. A woman who checks with the people who know the law before she acts on the law.

Sarah Palin is truly a woman who has the interests of the people at heart while securing the rights and freedoms granted to people under the Constitution.

If Palin herself were running for President she would have my vote, but to vote for McCain is going to take some persuading (and never fear Obama certainly does not have my vote). This is turning out to be quite an interesting election season.

And as a side note I like the new campaign slogan on the McCain/Palin website "Country First: Reform-Prosperity-Peace". It is certainly better than simply Hoping for Change with Obama.

Come and Take It

1835, General Santa Anna of Mexico has a list of atrocities against freedom a mile long. The people of Texas had suffered these atrocities including imprisonment of innocent civilians in the area. Gen Santa Anna dissolved the local government and turned the territory into a military state, marching thousands of men into the area. Supplies coming into the area were also seized and Gen Santa Anna instituted heavy taxes and custom duties on the citizens. However the people complied and the tyranny continued.

Instead of outright revolt William Travis took 25 men and marched on the capital ordering the Mexican army out. The citizens were shocked and rebuked Travis, and Gen. Santa Anna saw this as a sign of weakness in the people. Santa Anna ordered hundreds more troops onto Texas and order his brother-in-law General Martin Perfecto de Cos to take control of the area. General Cos ordered the arrest of Travis and other "trouble makers" in Texas, but what the Mexican leaders interpreted as weakness was simply a desire to be free and to do so without violence. The imprisonment of some of the sons of Texas was the catalyst needed for the Texas people to turn violently against Santa Anna.

Early in 1835 a man by the name of Stephen F. Austin was arrested on charges of instilling ideas of a revolution. In September of 1835, after the arrest of the Travis and the decision of the Texan people to turn against Santa Anna, Stephan F. Austin reappeared in Texas and told the Texas people that the message from Santa Anna was clear. Santa Anna was destroying the rights of the people and that the people of Texas have a moral sense to resist and repel any armed force sent against "this country". The sentiment was clear, armed resistance was the only option.

Santa Anna decided that he would send Gen. Cos to disarm the resistance, to move house to house and disarm the people, break up groups of people who seemed suspicious, and seize the arms and stores in military hands before the resistance hand the chance to really resist.

Word of trouble had spread throughout Texas to the colonists and the colonists at Gonzales were shining up and readying a small cannon given to them to protect themselves from the Native Americans. Ugartechea, with the order to disarm the citizens sent men to take the cannon from the people. The colonists at Gonzalez did not have the means to immediately resist and stalled for time by asking for direct orders to disarm, all the while taking the cannon, burying it, and sending messengers to the surrounding areas to ask for armed assistance.

Stephan F. Austin wrote this letter regarding the call from the people of Gonzalez for armed assistance:

The Committee of the Jurisdiction of Austin has received the communication directed to the Committee of Safety of Mina by you, in the name of the people of Gonzales, under the date of the 25th inst., stating that Colonel Ugartachea had made a demand for the piece of cannon at that place, and that the people, in a general meeting, had refused to give it up. You state that, "from every circumstance, and from information, the people are justified in believing that this demand is only made to get a pretext to make a sudden inroad and attack upon that colony for marauding and other purposes;" in consequence of which those people request assistance to aid in repelling an attack, should one be made.

The present movements of the people of Texas are of a popular and voluntary character, in defense of their constitutional rights, which are threatened by military invasion of an unconstitutional character. The people are acting on the defensive; and, therefore, there cannot be a doubt that it was correct in the people of Gonzales, under this principle, to detain the piece of cannon which was given to them by the authorities of a constitutional government, to defend themselves and the constitution, if necessary.

On this principle, the people of this, and of every other section of the country, so far as this Committee is informed, are ready to fly at a moment's warning to the defense of those people, should they be attacked. Companies of volunteers have already marched, and more are in readiness, should they be needed, to repel an attack.

This Committee beg leave to suggest that inasmuch as the position taken by the country up to the present time, is purely defensive, it is very important to keep this principle constantly view, and to avoid making attacks unless they should be necessary as a measure of defense.

Yours, respectfully, S. F. Austin, Chairman of Committee. G.W. Davis, Secretary of the Committee of Gonzales.

Stephan F. Austin, affirmed that not only were the 18 men at Gonzalez acting in defense of their constitutional rights against the impending threat of an invading army, but that the people of the country stood behind the men at Gonzalez and were ready to offer them armed assistance at a moments notice. With that in mind the men at Gonzalez captured the small number of Mexican troops waiting to receive the cannon. One man escaped and took word to the Mexican army what had happened at Gonzalez, but the people of Texas were already mobilizing and on October 1, 1835 167 volunteers showed up at Gonzalez, answering the call for armed assistance.

A Mexican General appeared with approximately 200 Mexican troops but could not cross the Guadalupe River because the Texans had blocked them by removing the ferry from the river. The General ordered the ferry restored and the cannon turned over to the Mexican army. The Mexican army made various threats to the citizens at Texas and in turn the Texans mocked them by flying a flag made by Sara Seely DeWitt and her daughter Evaline DeWitt that depicted a lone black star over a black cannon (representative of the cannon in question) with the words "come and take it" underneath the picture. This became the battle cry and the mocking chant of the Texan people. This flag was the first battle flag of Texas, a flag openly defying a tyrants attempt to disarm the people.

In the dark of night the Texas people silently crept across the river with the intent of fighting of the Mexican army. Once across the river Reverend William P. Smith addressed the Texans. Here is an excerpt of his speech, read it, it will give you goosebumps, as it will apply to every generation throughout history.
FELLOW-SOLDIERS: To cap the climax of a long catalogue on injuries and grievances attempted to be heaped upon us, the government of Mexico, in the person of Santa Anna, has sent an army to commence the disarming system. Give up the cannon, and we may surrender our small arms also, and at once to be the vassals of the most imbecile and unstable government on earth. But will Texas give up the cannon? Will she surrender her small-arms? Every response is NO, NEVER! Never will she submit to a degradation of that character! Fellow-soldiers, the cause for which we are contending is just, honorable and glorious--our liberty! The same blood that animated the hearts of our ancestors of '76 still flows warm in our veins. Having waited several days for the Mexican army to make an attack upon us, we have now determined to attack them on tomorrow morning at the dawn of day. Some of us may fall, but if we do, let us be sure to fall with our face toward the enemy. ...

When the fog lifted the Texas militia opened fire with the cannon from Gonzalez and the Mexican Captain, Castaneda, asked for a parlay and questioned the militia as to why he was being attacked. The commander of the Texans, Colonel Moore explained that Captain Castaneda and the Mexican army were attempting to disarm the Texans of a cannon given to them to defend themselves as well as the constitution and laws of the country. In juxtaposition the Captain was acting under orders of the tyrant Santa Anna, breaking all of the laws and constitutional rights of the rest of Mexico, but that the Mexican army would not do that in Texas and Texas would fight to make sure this was the case.

Captain Castaneda told Colonel Moore that he himself was a republican and while the government went through some changes it was still the government and that the people of Texas were bound to abide by the laws of this new government. Colonel Moore told him that if he was truly a republican that he would give up his rank and join forces with the Texans to oppose the tyranny of Santa Anna. Captain Castaneda said that he would obey his orders, and with that Colonel Moore returned to the ranks of the Texas militia and ordered them to open fire on the Mexican army.

Captain Castaneda and the Mexican army put up a brief fight but quickly abandoned the fight and fled back to San Antonio. Thus the Texans kept their cannon and resisted the tyranny of a government to attempt to disarm the people and oppress them by attempting to violate their constitutional rights.

With this in mind I can not help but see parallels to our current situation. There are many people who are actively trying to disarm law abiding citizens, some of those people are in our government. This is our God-given right, listed and affirmed by the Constitution, and recently confirmed by the Supreme Court that we have an individual right to keep and bear arms.

With the upcoming elections looming, and continuous attacks on our gun rights I can not help but to hear the words of our early Texas ancestors in my mind: "come and take it"

For liberty, for peace, for our rights,

The best commentary I have read in a long time...go take a look

Brigid has written one of the best commentaries I have ever read about this upcoming election. She has said what many others were feeling, but no one says it better than she has.

Head on over to Brigid's blog and read it for yourself. It is well worth the read and will make you think.

A hat tip, and a raise of my glass to Brigid.

1000 VISITORS!

Today I hit 1,000 visitors to my blog. This is quite interesting for me because the majority of those visitors happened to visit in the second half of August. It is cool for me because apparently I have been writing some stuff that has been getting people interested in my blog. So I am blog-celebrating my 1,000th visitor. Here's a round on me.

Life Update--Going to Nursing School

I have not actually blogged about my life in awhile, and considering the name of this blog, I think I should probably do that. For those of you who do not know, which is probably most of the people I know, I have decided to go back to school for nursing. Now I know what some of you thinking, "but you just graduated with a BA in Psychology, and the school you went to had a fantastic nursing program; why nursing school?" Well my dear friends that question has been asked and the answer is quite simple, college does not define the life you will live, it helps you to discover the possibilities of the life that you want. In May I received my BA in Psychology, and anyone who knows anything about Psychology degrees knows that the only thing I can do with a BA is to go further.

I previously thought I wanted to go into Industrial Organizational Psych, and then I took some classes and was bored with the material, furthermore the established folks in the field have a certain way of doing things, and no matter how asinine those may be they will keep doing it that way. When I realized IO Psych was not right for me and that I may want to do social work it was already too late to apply for graduate school, so I figured I would have some time to figure out exactly what I wanted to do.

In the course of figuring out how to keep Sallie Mae from raping and pillaging the village of my life, I learned that I could get a nursing degree from my local community college and do it by taking 4 prerequisites and than the required nursing programs. The nursing programs will take 2 years to complete. I have always loved the medical field and science and the like, Discovery Health channel is one of my favorite channels, and I have considered getting a nursing degree for quite some time. This seemed like a logical decision to me, not to mention that as an RN I would make a better starting salary than I would with a Master's in Social Work, and potentially a better long term salary than with a Master's in Social Work. I also believe that I would be great in the medical field and I trust in God that this is the right choice. I feel fairly content with this decision.

So in about 12 hours, as it is 1am and insomnia is continuing to plague me, I will begin nursing school, well I will actually begin the prereqs for nursing school. This semester I will be taking Biology (remember I already have a degree and most of those credits transferred) and I still have to take micro-biology, and Anatomy & Physiology I and II. Because Biology is a prereq for the other 3 classes I can only take biology for now. As my adviser put it, I am on a slow boat. If anyone knows the Olympic rowing team, I could use some help in speeding this boat up.

All in all I am happy with this decision. I just hope that I can kick the insomnia, I am not sure if it is going to be a blessing or a curse with nursing school.

In other news, I have a job interview on Tuesday, wish me luck.

Ok, life updates are over, back to regularly scheduled programming.

The 2nd Amendment, the Militia and your rights

I have been thinking quite a bit about the Second Amendment lately, doing some research and listening to what some people have to say. As we all know, I am an avid supporter of the Second Amendment, but I am always curious why other people are not.

Two of the most common arguments I hear against the Second Amendment, are as follows
  • The Constitution was written hundreds of years ago, surely the founders did not know what sort of technology we would have today, and they did not intend for ordinary people to use these types of weapons. The Second Amendment should evolve as society evolves.
and
  • The Second Amendment refers to the militia, which today is the current military. It says nothing about citizens owning firearms

So these got me to thinking, do these two arguments hold any sentiment of truth? In order to find these answers I did some research to find some quotes by the founding fathers, and others from the time period about this matter. Here is what I have found that should negate those arguments.

First a quote from Thomas Jefferson about reading the Constitution when the intent comes into question:
"On every question of construction [of the Constitution] let us
carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was
adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and
instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text,
or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it
was passed." THOMAS JEFFERSON, letter to William Johnson, June
12, 1823, found in The Complete Jefferson, p. 322

It looks to me that Thomas Jefferson is saying that when trying to decide what the Constitution means or does not mean, we should "conform to the probable one in which it was passed".

So what exactly did the early people and founders of America intend by the Second Amendment? Luckily we have some quotes about that as well.

A good and clear quote right away as to the intention of the Second Amendment
"Arms in the hands of citizens [may] be used at individual
discretion... in private self defense..." JOHN ADAMS, A Defense
of the Constitutions of the Government of the USA, 471 (1788)

And this one is even more clear
"The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is
able might have a gun." PATRICK HENRY, 3 Elliot, Debates at 386.

And indeed ensuring everyone is armed and teaching them at a young age is also essential
"To preserve liberty it is essential that the whole body of the
people always possess arms and be taught alike, especially when
young, how to use them..." RICHARD HENRY (LIGHT HORSE HARRY)
LEE, writing in Letters from the Federal Farmer to the Republic
(1787-1788)

"The whole of the Bill [of Rights] is a declaration of the right
of the people at large or considered as individuals... It
establishes some rights of the individual as unalienable and
which consequently, no majority has a right to deprive them of."
ALBERT GALLATIN of the NY Historical Society, October 7, 1789.

"...the people have a right to keep and bear arms." PATRICK
HENRY AND GEORGE MASON, Elliot, Debates at 185

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." THOMAS
JEFFERSON, Proposal for a Virginia Constitution, 1 T. Jefferson
Papers, 334 (C.J. Boyd, Ed. 1950)

And here is one of my personal favorites
"As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people duly before
them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which
must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert
their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people
are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear
their private arms." TENCH COXE in "Remarks on the First Part of
the Amendments to the Federal Constitution," under the pseudonym
"A Pennsylvanian" in the Philadelphia Federal Gazette, June 18,
1789.

Well it would seem the intent of the Second Amendment is clear, for the citizens to be able to keep and bear arms, despite what the government may think, and indeed because the government and military may "attempt to tyrannize" and because the government may "not [have] their duty to the people duly before them".

Some interesting quotes there, but what about that pesky argument regarding the militia and the military. Ah, indeed our founders thought of that, and smartly so.

It seems the militia is indeed the people and not a standing army or military
"A militia, when properly formed are in fact the people
themselves...and include all men capable of bearing arms."
RICHARD HENRY (LIGHT HORSE HARRY) LEE, Additional Letters from
the Federal Farmer (1788) at 169.

But for the critics who need more proof that the militia is not the current standing army
"What, sir, is the use of a militia? It is to prevent the
establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty." Rep.
ELBRIDGE GERRY of Massachusetts, I annals of Congress at 750
(August 17, 1789).

And
"I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except
for a few public officials." George Mason, 3 Elliot, Debates
at 425-426.
"The right of the people to keep and bear...arms shall not be
infringed. A well regulated militia, composed of the people,
trained to arms is the best and most natural defense of a free
country..." JAMES MADISON, 1 Annals of Congress 434 (June 8,
1789).

But does Congress have the power to disarm the people? Of course not
"Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and
every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the
birth-right of an American... [T]he unlimited power of the sword
is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments,
but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of
the people." TENCH COXE, Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.

Well these all seem fairly evident to me as to whether or not the Second Amendment should be re-worked because of evolving times. It is also fairly evident that the Second Amendment was written so that free people may be able to protect themselves from people who wish to them harm, and in order to resist tyranny from the government and the free standing army. Indeed, the militia is the people, and Congress has no right to disarm the people. Like Thomas Jefferson said "no free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms" I will never freely disarm, and in the spirit of Thomas Jefferson, let me remind everyone what happens when governments try to disarm the people, at least the American people
"And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are
not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the
spirit of resistance? Let them take arms... The tree of liberty
must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots
and tyrants." THOMAS JEFFERSON, letter to William S. Smith,
1787, in S. Padover (Ed.), Jefferson, On Democracy (1939), p. 20.

The people do not, and should not respond kindly to a government infringing upon their rights. Anyone who will give up essential liberty for a little security deserves neither (paraphrased form Benjamin Franklin).

This should help to clear up quite a bit about the Second Amendment. In defense of you and I, in defense of our rights, I will not disarm, and nor will millions like me.

Free the Airwaves--Bringing Wireless Internet to Everyone, Everywhere

In February 2009 television will move from analog to all digital, which means there will be a lot of unused airwaves available. If anyone can remember the white noise channels on old televisions (and sometimes on the newer television) these are unused airwaves. A group of people, along with Google, have created a group called "Free the Airwaves" and they are petitioning the FCC so that these airwaves may be used to bring Broadband wireless internet to everyone, everywhere. There are major benefits in this that include, but not limited too, bringing wireless internet access to rural communities. Additionally, with rural communities having internet access, it will open up other technologies for rural communities. Google and Free the Airwaves are much better at explaining it than me so if you have a few minutes (reading about it does not take long) head on over to the Google Blog and also check out Free the Airwaves, where a Google product manager has made a short video explaining what this is all about. If you like what you hear, sign the petition to the FCC to show your support. Imagine, wireless freedom.

Barack Obama Picks Joe Biden---A decision raising some eyebrows

Joe Biden and Barack Obama

At approximately 3:13am my Blackberry emitted it's dutiful call to me, letting me know that I have received an important message. Through bleary eyes and a sleep induced fog in my head I read this message
"Barack has chosen Senator Joe Biden to be our VP nominee."
I read it again and realized it was a message from the Obama campaign notifying me of the Vice Presidential choice.

I quickly woke up, realizing that Barack Obama just made a huge mistake. Listed below is 21 reasons is why Senator Joe Biden is a bad choice for Barack, for Vice President, and for America. (comments in italics are my own)

  1. He voted NO on $40 billion dollars in reduced overall federal spending (this is your money being spent)
  2. Voted NO on prioritizing national debt reduction.
  3. Voted YES on prohibiting same sex marriage (remember the government has no right to tell a consenting adult whether or not they can marry another consenting adult. Regardless of religious beliefs, the government does not have this power.)
  4. Rated 32% by the US COC, indicating an anti-business voting record (remember business owners of America. Joe Biden is not your friend)
  5. Said "National ban on smoking would reduce chronic illness (Should the government really be able to tell you whether or not you can smoke? And what next? A Ban on driving would stop chronic car accidents...do not go down the slippery slop of government regulation)
  6. Voted NO on school vouchers in DC (anyone who has seen the public school system in DC knows why this is a bad decision. On top of that you should be the one to decide where you want your child and your education tax money to go.)
  7. Voted YES on dis-allowing oil drilling in Alaska's ANWR (remember how high gas prices are climbing)
  8. Voted YES on banning drilling in ANWR (again, gas prices are high and this could help to end America's oil dependence on other countries. With today's technology this would be perfectly safe)
  9. Rated 16% by the Christian Coalition, a family watch group, indicating an anti-family voting record
  10. Said to "Shut down any imports of toys from China. (Shouldn't you decide whom you buy from and what you buy? You are a rational and informed citizen are you not? )
  11. Voted to keep the assualt weapon gun ban (introduced by Pres. Clinton, this ban was shown by the Department of Justice to increase violent crimes, not decrease them. It seems Biden either does not know what the laws he votes for actually does, or he wants you to be victimized by violent crime)
  12. Voted NO on banning lawsuits against gun manufacturers for gun violence (Gun manufacturers' making of gun does not contribute to violence. The Department of Justice has shown that the more law abiding citizens with guns decreases violence. By saying that gun manufacturers are the cause of gun violence is absurd, that is like saying that car makers are the cause of auto accident deaths. No folks, neglect and misuse causes gun violence.)
  13. Voted F by the NRA, indicating a pro-gun control voting record (he is not the friend of anyone who wants to protect their families, or themselves, nor the friends of hunters who provide food for their families, or farmers who use guns for food and protection of crops. Joe Biden is not your friend on the Second Amendment, he does not believe you have this right)
  14. Voted YES on blocking Health Savings Accounts (that's right folks, even if you want to put money into a HSA so that you can have money to cover future medical expenses should you need it, Sen. Joe Biden does not want you to be able to do this. Think about that the next time you have a medical bill to pay.)
  15. He wants universal national service in either the military or the peace corps (Now he even wants to take away your choice as to what to do with your own time and money. Don't want to join the military or peace corps? To bad, Joe Biden thinks it should be mandatory or "universal". Know what other country forces people to join the military, communist China.)
  16. Voted YES on reauthorizing the Patriot Act. (the Patriot Act is a law of gross rights violations. It infringes on human and constitutional rights and has shown to cause problems because of it gross abuse.)
  17. Voted NO on Social Security lock box (aka, Social Security can be dipped into for other reasons, one of the causes of our current Social Security crisis)
  18. Voted NO on personal retirement accounts (apparently you should not be allowed to be able to save for your own retirement)
  19. Voted NO on permanently repealing the death tax (yes folks even when you die your family will have to pay taxes on everything you leave for them to inherit, this also means that money you have already paid taxes on will be taxed again. It looks like both death and taxes are inevitable after all.)
  20. Voted NO on across the board spending cut (again, this is your money he wants to spend)
  21. Supports NAFTA and CAFTA, (these destroy America's right to trade freely with other countries, driving up prices of the goods you pay for
It seems Senator Biden does not have our best interest in mind when voting. He supports higher taxes for you, he supports control over what you do in your life, and he does not support your rights. Overall he is in favor big government, and as our Founding Fathers knew, Big Government is a bad thing for the people.

Remember folks, casting a vote for the Obama/Biden ticket is casting a vote to give away your freedoms.

And for my critics, casting a vote for McCain is also just as bad.

Make an informed choice,

Video--A Visitor from the Past

I watched this video and it really hit home with me. It is called "A Visitor from the Past" and was written by Thelen Paulk.

Here is the text:

I had a dream the other night, I didn't understand.
A figure walking through the mist, with flintlock in his hand.
His clothes were torn and dirty, as he stood there by my bed.
He took off his three-cornered hat, and speaking low, he said:

"We fought a revolution, to secure our liberty.
We wrote the Constitution, as a shield from tyranny.
For future generations, this legacy we gave.
In this, the land of the free and home of the brave.

"The freedom we secured for you, we hoped you'd always keep.
But tyrants labored endlessly while your parents were asleep.
Your freedom gone, your courage lost, you're no more than a slave.
In this, the land of the free and home of the brave.

"You buy permits to travel, and permits to own a gun, permits to
start a business, or to build a place for one.
On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent.
Although you have no voice in choosing, how the money's spent.

"Your children must attend a school that doesn't educate.
Your Christian values can't be taught, according to the state.
You read about the current news, in a regulated press.
You pay a tax you do not owe, to please the I.R.S.

"Your money is no longer made of Silver or of Gold.
You trade your wealth for paper, so your life can be controlled.
You pay for crimes that make our Nation, turn from God in shame.
You've taken Satan's number, as you've traded in your name.

"You've given government control, to those who do you harm,
so they can padlock churches, and steal the family farm, and
keep our country deep in debt, put men of God in jail, and harass
your fellow countrymen, while corrupted courts prevail.

"Your public servants don't uphold the solemn oath they've sworn.
Your daughters visit Doctors, so their children won't be born.
Your leaders ship artillery and guns to foreign shores,
And send your sons to slaughter, fighting other people's wars.

"Can you regain the freedom for which we fought and died?
Or don't you have the courage, or the faith to stand with pride?
Are there no more values for which you'll fight to save?
Or do you wish your children, live in fear and be a slave?

"Sons of the Republic, arise and take a stand!
Defend the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land!
Preserve our Great Republic, and each GOD-Given Right!
And pray to GOD, to keep the torch of Freedom burning bright!"

As I awoke he vanished, in the mist from whence he came.
His words were true, we are not Free, we have ourselves to blame.
For even now as tyrants trample each GOD-Given Right,
We only watch and tremble, too afraid to stand and fight.

If he stood by your bedside, in a dream, while you're asleep,
and wonders what remains of our Rights he fought to keep,
what would be your answer, if he called out from the grave:

"IS THIS STILL THE LAND OF THE FREE
AND HOME OF THE BRAVE?"

Raises a lot of good questions, gives us all something to think about.

OLYMPIC NEWS UPDATE---IOC TO INVESTIGATE AGES OF CHINESE GYMNASTS

NBC reports that the International Olympics Committee has asked gymnastics officials to investigate whether or not some of the Chinese gymnasts are of age to compete in the Gymnastics competition. In quotes from the IOC as to what prompted this new investigation they have said
"more information has come to light."
and
"If there is a question mark and we have a concern, which we do, we ask the governing body of any sport to look into it."

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) is the organization the IOC has asked to conduct the investigation based on this new information, but it is not clear exactly what this new information is. The FIG has held the position that a passport is the accepted document of age verification and both the FIG and the IOC have verified these passports containing the ages of the girls.Earlier in the week FIG president Bruno Grandi was interviewed by the Associated Press and said that
"We are not in a position to say 'It's good, it's not good.' It's a government document,"
However there is speculation that recent media reports and online documents may have caused at least part of this new investigation. The three girls currently in question are He Kexin, Jiang Yuyuan, and Yang Yilin.

If the evidence does prove that these girls are underage, the Chinese would lose 6 medals including a gold in the team competition and a gold on the uneven, a gold won by a computer decided tiebreaker between He Kexin and American gymnast Nastia Lukin.

Stay tuned and I will give updates as much as possible about this breaking news on these Chinese gymnasts. Hopefully we will know more tomorrow.

Well look at that

So I was wandering through my site meter results and found this little gem. Apparently someone from the House of Representatives has been reading my blog. What exactly they have been reading is what I wrote some time ago about, the "Read the Bills Act". If you want to read that blog post it can be found here

Anyway, here the screen shot. I thought it was pretty cool. Hopefully this politician is a repeat visitor to my blog because that probably means they have the same opinions politically as I do, and that would be in the best interest of the people.

Teachers in Texas to carry guns

The Harrold Independent School District, a small district in Texas, has recently decided to allow teachers to conceal carry guns in the class room. The school board voted to unanimously allow this to happen with the support of Superintendent David Thweatt, and with no objection from parents. The teachers would have to be able to receive a concealed carry permit and go through all of the training required to receive a concealed carry permit. After that teachers will be reviewed by the school board and it will decided on a case by case basis if the board will allow them to carry in the school. If they are allowed to carry they will go through more intensive training with the guns which include crisis management and intervention and hostage intervention.

The school has come under a lot of heat for this decision, however it has also gained a lot of support. The Superintendent says
"We have a lock-down situation, we have cameras, but the question we had to answer is, 'What if somebody gets in? What are we going to do? It's just common sense."

This is true. The school has cameras, and in order to enter the building you must swipe a card that will then allow you access to the building. The building can be locked down and monitored through a system in the main office, and they have evacuation plans in place in case of a disaster or if something were to happen with the trains that run near the school. But with a major highway only minutes away, and the school visible from said highway, it only makes sense the take further steps to protect the children. Some may ask, "what about the police"? The nearest police station is roughly 30 miles away from the school, thus the only protection is what the school can offer.

I believe this makes a lot of sense. Look at all of the recent school shootings, someone went on a shooting rampage intent on killing innocent people. The schools plan? Barricade yourself inside of classrooms until help arrives. Many, many people die and when help arrives they can do nothing more than count the dead and carry out the wounded.

Columbine, two shooters, no one armed, dozens die, police arrive to prevent nothing from happening.

Virginia Tech, one shooter, no one armed, a police force on campus, teachers and students barricade themselves inside, dozens die, police can do nothing

Northern Illinois University, one shooter in a classroom, no one armed, campus police can hear shoots from outside of the door, dozens die, police can do nothing.

The common thread between all of these is that the only person armed was the criminal, and that because of this dozens died. Some had police on campus, others had to wait for police to arrive, but no matter what the proximity of the police the result was the same. Statistically speaking, an armed faculty could have prevented a large majority of these deaths.

Some people will undoubtedly complain about this, they will say this is not safe and that they want their kids to be safe. How safe is a school that is a gun free zone? Hunks of metal with writing on them do not deter criminals. Speed limit signs do not stop people from speeding, trespassing signs do not stop people from trespassing, and gun free signs do not stop criminals. Have we forgotten what it means for someone to be a criminal? A criminal does not follow the laws, nor do they follow signs. The only people who follow the laws and the signs are law abiding citizens who then become victims because of those signs. And the only time a hunk of metal stops a criminal is when it flies at 800 mph, is a covering for gun powder, and is trailed by a muzzle flare.

"What about a security guard"? you say. Remember, Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University had police forces on campus. Police and security can not protect every person at every time, only you can protect yourself all the time.

Let me make something very clear to everyone who is griping about this. As a parent it is your job to protect your children, and because your children spend a lot of time in school it is then the schools responsibility to protect your children. If you want them to be safe let the schools keep them safe, and when they are with you than you keep them safe as well. If you do not want to make sure your kids are safe than you should re-evaluate your role as a parent.

Complain now but watch your kid grow up and see them graduate, or roll the dice and see if your kid becomes another statistic. It is easy to complain when you have not lost someone to gun violence, but for those of us who know that tragedy, I would rather keep my guns and protect myself, and entrust my loved ones to others who are willing to do the same.

You can be a sheep and get slaughtered by the wolf, or you can be a sheepdog and battle the wolf.

Is there proof that He Kexin is too young to be an Olympic Gymnast?

In my extensive search into the fact that many people, including myself, believe that at least two of the girls from the Chinese Olympic team are not of age to compete in the Olympics. The two girls in question are Jiang Yuyuan and He Kexin. I have come under just a small amount of criticism from some people because apparently I am not an expert (I never claimed to be) and because I am American I think that the only way for America to lose is because someone else has to cheat (again I never even hinted at that, I believe there are some sports America has and will continue to lose at).

So In order to shut the critics up, not just mine but all of the critics who say that we are just complaining that America lost, and in order to bring this to all of you, the readers of this blog, I have found some evidence. This was not "broken" by me but I think you all will appreciate it and I will give credit where credit is due.

An Article from the China Daily dated May 23 2008(Click for bigger, readable view)

This article was in the China Daily dated May 23 2008 and I found it via Google, however the page is no longer available. Thanks to Google's system of caching I was able to grab this snap shot. I am sorry this picture is hard to see, however the things I point out are this, the title is "Uneven bars queen, the new star in town", the name in the article is indeed "He Kexin", and the first line of the second paragraph reads, "The 14-year-old newcomer to the national team". That same article that is now on the website has her listed as 16, but we know from the original article, that her age was quickly changed when it came into question.

For me that was enough to know that I am correct in my assumptions, however there is more evidence as reported by the China Digital Times. This next picture is from the China Digital Times and shows an article written by the Xinhua News Agency on November 3, 2007. This article is in Chinese but the caption under the picture is translated into English by the China Digital Times.

An Article from the Xinhua News Agency written on November 3, 2007 as reported by the China Digital Times on August 16 2008(Click for bigger, readable view)

The english translation reads:
The thirteen-year-old He Kexin, from Wuhan, met opponent Yang Yilin, who is on the National Team. Amid cheers from her hometown audience, the young girl excellently executed the full set of moves in the finals, and just beat out Yang Yilin, who already had high scores. Lu Shanzhen, the General Coach of the National Gymastic team, also applauded her performance.

Now, answer me this, is someone who is thirteen in 2007 eligible to compete in the Olympics in 2008? Unless the Chinese have a secret, other that falsify passport and birth information, for speeding up age than it is obvious there is some cheating going on by the Chinese.

The next document is from China's National Sports Administration, needless to say this is also no longer available on line. It is the list of athletes and has been once again translated by the China Digital Times. It shows the document in the Original Chinese and then the translation showing He Kexin as being born on January 1 1994.
Roster from China's National Sports Administration, translated by China Digital Times(Click for bigger, readable view)

And finally, six, count them SIX quotes from various Chinese news sources listing the age of He Kexin. Once again the translations are by Chinese Digital Times.

Well there we have it folks. There is really not much more that I have to see to know that China has indeed cheated in order to win the Gold. Combined with what I had posted a few days ago and what I have posted today, I have a solid foundation to stand on, and leave my critics, and the critics of others, little room to doubt. But just in case some people are not convinced that China would cheat in an Olympic game to win, there is one more thing that I found in the Huffington Post on August 14 2008:
China has a rich history of age falsification in Olympics competition, especially in gymnastics. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, three years after the minimum age was raised to 16 in gymnastics, Chinese gymnast Yang Yun competed and won a bronze medal in the uneven bars (coincidentally this event is also He's specialty). Yang's passport said she was born on December 24, 1984 and turning 16 in the year of the Games, making her eligible. She later confessed in a television interview that she was only 14 at the time of the competition and that she and her coaches had lied about her age.

Does that sound familiar? A Chinese gymnast being pawned off as 16 in order for her to compete, in 2000 no less. Later she confessed she was 14. Apparently the Chinese Government has short term memory loss, and does not learn from their cheating mistakes.

With all this media attention and proof of cheating, I can not imagine that the International Olympic Committee will let the Chinese keep the medal they won. Stayed tuned and we will see what happens.

Are the Chinese Gymnasts Underage?--UPDATE W/NEW PICTURES

He Kexin
Jiang Yuyuan

UPDATE: A picture comparison of other Chinese Athletes is at the bottom of page

Claims that He Kexin and Jian Yuyuan are under the minimum age requirement of 16 to compete on the Chinese Gymnastics team have been raised in the months leading up to the Olympic games. After the Chinese win over the American team last night, these allegations are re-surfacing with shocking results.

When these allegations were originally brought to light, the Chinese government was quick to provide passports, passports the government itself issues, verifying the ages of the two girls. Olympic officials confirmed that the passports listed their ages as 16 and that their was nothing more that they could do. However are there other documents listing the girls as younger than 16? The doubters range from the USA Gymnastics Team, to fans of the sport, to Chinese press themselves.

According to the New York Times there are many documents listing the girls as being too young to compete, including documents from the country of China. Online records from the Chinese Government as well as Chinese media list the girls as young as 14 years old. Earlier this year Chinese newspapers profiled the athletes, and they listed He Kexin as 14 years old. The New York Times (article linked by clicking on title for this blog) states that they have found two online records, one the official registration list of gymnasts, lists He Kexin's birth date as January 1 1994, and a second list is a 2007 national registry of Chinese gymnasts that also lists He Kexin's birth date as January 1 1994. The case builds further against He Kexin, as a competition in the city of Chengdu, China also lists He Kexin's birth date as nothing other than January 1 1994. The China Daily also listed He Kexin's age as 14. He Kexin's passport which was issued in February 2008, lists her birth date as January 1 1992.

Jiang Yuyuan's age is also in question. Jiang's passport, which was issued in March 2006, lists her birth date as November 1 1991 (it seems all the best Chinese gymnasts are born on the first of months). The International Herald Tribune reports that Jiang Yuyuan appears on a list of junior competitors from the Zhejiang Province sports administration. The Tribune says that this list includes national identification card numbers which have birth dates embedded into them. The number on this list confirms Jiang Yuyuan's birth date as October 1 1993, which means that Jiang Yuyuan will not be 15 until this October after the Olympics.

But why exactly is it a competitive edge to be younger? This is simple to answer. Nellie Kim, a five time Olympic gold medalist and the current President of the women's technical committee for the International Gymnastics Federation, says that younger gymnasts are lighter and psychologically they are less afraid when performing difficult maneuvers.

However China is still sticking to the fact that they have provided passports which confirm the girls as being 16 years of age and thus old enough to compete. But is it really a far stretch to think that People's Republic of China does not have the ability to alter birth dates, or fake passports which they themselves issue? In such an authoritarian country it is not hard to imagine that they have altered documents in order to make the country look good. In fact we know that presenting the best face is of the utmost importance to the Chinese government. There has already been criticism for the fake fireworks display of feet marching towards the Olympic stadium as well as the scandal of the 9 year old girl who lip synced a song that was originally sang by a 7 year old Chinese girl. The 7 year old was not allowed to sing on television because she was not flawless, she had buck teeth. In this instance a Chinese official from the politburo is quoted as saying
"We should all understand it like this: it is a question of the national interest.

Where the American gymnasts cheated out of gold? The evidence speaks for itself. Would China intentionally cheat, falsify, and do something that would intentionally harm others? That evidence also speaks for itself

UPDATE WITH PICTURES
Compare the first two pictures, which are He Kexin and Jiang Yuyuan, the two girls who ages are in question and whom the Chinese government claim are 16 years old. The compare the three photos following that of other Chinese Olympic team athletes, two of them being listed as 16 and one them just turning 17 in May (see captions)

He Kexin
Jiang Yuyuan

These three girls are Roulin Chen, He Zi, Huijia Chen and . Roulin Chen's birth date is listed as December 12, 1992, which makes her 15 years of age. This is in compliance because an athlete must be 16 or turning 16 in the year of the Olympics. He Zi's birth date is listed as January 11 1992, making her 16 years old. Huijia Chen's birth date is listed as May 1991 which would make just over 16 years old.

He Zi, 16

Huijia Chen, 17

Does the Chinese Government expect us to believe that the two gymnasts are really 16 when they look much younger than there team mates who are actually 16 or just over 16 years of age. China, you are fooling no one.

American Airlines Charging War Bound Troops

CEO of American Airlines

The CEO of American Airlines, Gerard J. Arpey, apparently thinks that it is a good idea to charge American troops, who are on their way to war, for the extra bags that they have to bring with them. American Airlines recently charged two Texas soldiers $100 and $300 respectively because of the extra duffel bags that they had with them. This has caused a flurry of media attention and has brought backlash from VFW's and the military. A spokesman for American Airlines, Tim Wagner responded to the situation saying
"Because the soldiers don't pay a dime, our waiver of the fees amounts to a discount to the military, not a discount to soldiers..."Soldiers should not have to pay a penny of it."

What Mr. Wagner apparently does not know is that this paperwork must be submitted to the Pentagon for reimbursement and that is probably not at the fore front of importance when our troops put boots on the ground. Imagine this
Alpha Team: Bravo, this is Alpha, come in.
Bravo Team: This is Bravo
Alpha Team: Uh yeah, do you got a bead on that hostile?
Bravo Team: Sure Do Alpha, watch for incoming fire
Alpha Team: And did you remember to file reimbursement paperwork for those American Airlines fees?
Bravo Team: Damn

Mr. Arpey, Mr Wagner, the reason that you are calling your company American Airlines and not British Airlines, is because of our men and women in uniform. Apparently you think that they can file paperwork while worrying about things like staying alive and keeping their fellow troops alive. Paperwork is enough of a hassle, I would not want to have to worry about that while under fire.

American Airlines does seem to have a policy about this however, they do make exceptions for certain customers including First or Business Class tickets, AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum® and AAdvantage Gold® members. That's right, we wouldn't want to offend those elite passengers now would we?

"Fairness Doctrine"---equal content on my blog

I have been reading very briefly about this "Fairness Doctirne" that our ever so brilliant politician's are discussing right now. I was first alerted to it sometime ago and then it was brought to my attention again by David Codrea at "The War on Guns". I also read a newsreport this morning from Business and Media where the FCC Commissioner, Robert McDowell, discusses the Fairness Doctrine and in a surprising twist seems to be against it. Not what I would have expected out of the FCC, but it is good. The Fairness Doctrine will no doubt lead to the regulation of internet content, including what is said on the net by companies. Let me back up a second, for those of you that do not know what this doctrine is, it basically calls for equal time and space on television, radio, and websites for opposing views and opinions. This will lead to control of internet content. The most alarming part of this is what McDowell said about bloggers;
“Then, whoever is in charge of government is going to determine what is fair, under a so-called ‘Fairness Doctrine,’ which won’t be called that – it’ll be called something else,” McDowell said. “So, will Web sites, will bloggers have to give equal time or equal space on their Web site to opposing views rather than letting the marketplace of ideas determine that?”

Of Course this is absolutely ridiculous. Could you imagine if I put up opposing views on my blog? I suppose when I write about guns I would have to put my belief and than the crazy, completely ridiculous point of view of the Brady Campaign and those who hate my gun rights. I am sorry but I do not put ridiculousness on my blog, and that is saying something since I have posted a video with Paris Hilton, conclusion, those against my 2nd Amendment are more ridiculous than Paris Hilton. If John Q. Public wants a different view from what is expressed on my website than let them go find it. I do not force anyone to read this, if by chance you get here and do not like it, feel free to leave.

Hey let me tell you something, if the government thinks this is not going to be a grave violation of my 1st Amendment rights they are crazy. I warned a long time ago about the erosion of our rights and the many infringements that have been happening lately. Here is another warning...your 1st Amendment rights are now being attacked by the government with a proposed law.

Remember folks The People's Republic of China also regulates internet content, if this passes say hello to The People's Republic of America.

Paris Hilton vs Obama vs McCain (She actually makes sense)

Everyone has seen the McCain Campaign Ad comparing Obama to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Here is a "campaign ad" for Paris Hilton that mocks this campaign ad and then I realized that what she said actually made more sense than anything Obama or McCain had said. Obviously this was fed to her by the videos producer Chris Henchy and writer/director Adam McKay

I thought this video was pretty funny and I love anything that pokes fun at political figures. Without further ado, here is the video. Enjoy!
